a native Swabian
from Obereisesheim,
a village near
and
nowadays part of
Neckarsulm
(Stadt Neckarsulm)
in the rural district of Heilbronn
(Landkreis Heilbronn,
Stadt Heilbronn),
federal state of Baden-Württemberg
(Staatsministerium Baden-Württemberg),
where I was born and went to school
(Wilhelm-Maier-Schule Obereisesheim,
Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium Neckarsulm),
I emigrated in 1985 to my
"Baden exile"
to Karlsruhe
(Stadt Karlsruhe),
in order to start my studies in Computer Science at the
University of Karlsruhe
.
After receiving the Master
(Topic of my Master's thesis:
Graphical Simulation and Evaluation of the Future Standard for High-Speed Networks - DQDB (Graphische Simulation und Bewertung des zukünftigen Standards für Hochgeschwindigkeitsnetze - DQDB))
in August 1991,
since when I may decorate myself
with the title of a computer scientist ("Diplom-Informatiker"),
I worked as a research assistant
in the
high performance networking group
at the
Institute of Telematics
of the
University of Karlsruhe
within the
high-speed communications
and
network management
areas.
During that time
I wrote a thesis
(Topic:
Cooperative, Adaptive Resource Management in ATM Networks (Kooperatives, adaptives Ressourcen-Management in ATM-Netzwerken),
inventory
UniBib),
for which I received my PhD ("Dr. rer. nat.")
from the
Faculty of Computer Science
at the
University of Karlsruhe
in October 1994.
Afterwards I arrived in the Rhine area at Cologne
(Stadt Koeln),
where I was employed
from January 1995 on
at the
German Aerospace Research Establishment
as a research scientist
at the
DLR location Cologne-Porz.
The
communication technologies section,
where my employment started,
is
as a part of the
"Projektträger Informationstechnik"
for the
German Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Technology
responsible for project management and project funding
within the area of information technology.
That time,
these were
my tasks
as well.
In August 1996,
I moved to the
fundamental tasks section
of the
"Projektträger Informationstechnik"
where I was responsible
for some
web server activities
and especially for the information service of the
German Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Technology
about the
Initiative Information Society Germany
until leaving the DLR
in February 1998.
On March 1st, 1998,
I returned again
to the area of my former activities,
to Baden-Württemberg,
but this time to the Palatinate
(Rhein-Neckar-Kreis),
and
started
a new employment
as research staff member
within the
C&C Research Laboratories Europe (CCRLE)
of
NEC Europe
in Heidelberg
(Stadt Heidelberg),
where a new research lab was established in late 1997.
That place,
I was responsible for the participation of NEC in the
IthACI project
(Internet and the ATM: Experiments and Enhancements for Convergence and Integration),
which was funded by the EU within the European ACTS programme
and which was performed
together with various partners of public research and industry
during a two years period.
After successful completion of the IthACI project
and with the end of my timely limited contract with NEC
in February 2000,
I took some time off for about half a year,
before I started
a new job as
"project manager"
with
Lufthansa Systems
in the
"Network Services"
department
located in Kelsterbach
near
Frankfurt airport
in September 2000.
Here,
I took care of the
OptA project
(Optimization of Antique Infrastructure).
But well,
the network infrastructure
which was in use there,
as well as the purely adminitrative project management tasks
which were my duty
without any technical challenges,
did not satisfy my requirements
so that I ended that job
after half a year and thus still during the probation period,
in March 2001.
From September 2001 to July 2002,
I had a teaching position
at the
University of Applied Sciences Wiesbaden
in the
Department of Media Management
.
There,
in summer semester 2002,
I gave lectures on
"Einführung in die Rechnertechnik"
(Introduction to Computer Technology,
for students in their 1st term)
as well as
"Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik 1 und 2"
(Computer and Communication Technology 1 and 2,
for students in their 2nd and 3rd term).
In February 2003,
I was appointed to a professorship
at the
University of Cooperative Education
,
where I had given lectures since October 2002.
Since then,
I teach
students of
"Computer Science"
within the areas of
"Web-Engineering",
"Multimedia"
and
"Communication and Network Technology".
Moreover,
in September2003,
I also moved my place of residence to Karlsruhe
(Stadt Karlsruhe),
after I had commuted some time
from the Palatinate to the respective location of my job
(Kelsterbach, Wiesbaden, Karlsruhe).
Although the occupation with electronic computing machines is part of my job, I was interested in computers my whole life. Thus, you may find special information about my
